I thought it would be helpful to create a resource page so travellers like me can see the products and services I use. I’ve used and tried so many products over the years that the list would be too long so I put down only the ones that I use most of the time and I do recommend because they are companies that I have found helpful and trustworthy. The list will be continually evolving as I find different resources that are worth mentioning.
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything listed below!
Quechua Forclaz 55lt is my very first backpack. I bought it back in 2004. It came with me in so many trips and it visited many countries, it never left me down. At that time there wasn’t much choice like now and backpacks were very expensive so I’m very affectionate to it but unfortunately it’s a bit too small. I’m a small girl anyway so I can’t carry a lot of weight but to be honest this size is perfect only if is a beach holiday. That’s why when I started to do longer trips with different weather I had to update my gear with a bigger one.
The Lowe Alpine Women’s Airzone Trek ND Backpack is my latest purchase. I’ve chosen it because of its many features: breathable back maximising airflow, supportive lumbar pads, lightweight and expandable volume from 65lt up to 75lt which are perfect for medium-long trips and not too heavy for a small person like me! It has:
- Hydration Compatible pouch
- Walking Pole Tip Grippers
- Branded zip pulls with rain protection garage housing
- Front stash pocket – Ideal to stow a wet jacket or easy-access items
- Large stretch-mesh side pockets; Stretch hip-belt pockets (2) for easy-access
- Internal key clip
- Rain cover stored in base of pack
- Top loading with easy-access side zipper
- Large side-entry front pocket for additional versatile storage
Day backpack 25lt
Ideal for a multi-activity lifestyle, for everyday trip or as hand luggage for essential stuff with its slim profile, breathable back maximising airflow and large front opening for ease of access. It has:
- Zipped top pocket with key clip
- Versatile and lightweight; Inner zipped mesh pocket
- “Slide in” front zipped pocket
- Two side mesh pockets
- Hydration compatible
- Grab handle, Adjustable chest strap with whistle, Compression straps
- Loop for rear bike light
Roncato cabin luggage
I know. It’s bright green. And I love it! I can recognise it every where 😉 it’s Ryan Air cabin size approved so it will fit in every airline’s cabin. Oh and it’s lightweight. Perfect for weekends gateway or in addition to the big luggage.
4 wheels super light luggage
Samsonite is my favourite! So light and versatile, glam for city holidays I love it. It’s very spacious and has a TSA lock.
Travel money belt for security passport, cash and keys with two large zipped compartments. Mine is skin colour with breathable mesh cotton cloth, which is perfect to be worn under clothing and is not sweaty, with adjustable waist strap to fit all sizes.
Quick dry towel
No more fighting with the backpack to fit everything and then you realise that the big beach towel is still on the bed! With the microfibre towel I’ve fixed all my space problems. It’s quick dry and highly absorbent, lightweight, compact and soft. I have the large size and I use it for everything: yoga, Pilates, the beach, at the gym and swimming. The only down side is that you should dry it under the sun or by a radiator because it can smell bad if it’s very wet and doesn’t dry fast.
Same as above. Someone hates it someone loves it. I do love it! I sue the bathrobe only after the shower so I can take the towel to the beach and have a spare one clean. It’s very absorbent, lightweight and soft, quick dry like the towel.
Roll up vacuum storage bags
These bags are amazing as volume reducer! I would say they are essential pieces for us girls. The beauty is that you don’t need the vacuum to suck the air but you just need to roll them up to compress it. They are lifesaver especially on the way back home when you realise that you bought too many souvenirs and your bag is going to explode! They are also perfect to store the laundry or dirty clothes. I usually take four in the medium size with me every trip.
This waterproof dry pouch is my multi-use companion for camping, boating, kayaking, fishing, rafting, canoeing, laundry stuff or wet clothes or dirty shoes. It can be compressed, convenient to carry. It comes in different seizes with buckle clasp hook, easy to hang to backpack etc. It’s soft and flexible, rip-stop fabric with watertight roll-top closure for maximum compression.
Premium Dry Bag
I use this PVC waterproof bag for outdoor activities and water sports. The 5L sack is ultra tough, made of non-rip material with double-stitched, sealed seams and scrim-reinforced vinyl bottom to ensure maximum water resistance. Just roll up the top plastic closure tab system to provide secure and watertight seal. The sacks float when partially filled with air, but are not intended as a flotation device and should not be fully submerged. The strap is adjustable so you can wear it as a bag or like a backpack.
Waterproof pouch for electronics
Protects mobile phone, iPad and cameras from splashes, rain, sand and dirt. Mine is suitable for diving too and has transparent front window, which is amazing because I don’t have an underwater camera yet so I can use the compact one or my phone to take photos underwater thanks to the airtight triple seal system and a detachable adjustable strap.
Travel insurance is almost as important as your backpack! Believe me
Samsung NX300 Mirrorless Camera
This new generation camera, a mirrorless which means hybrid camera with the quality of a DSLR and the design and weight of a compact is the best camera for travelling that you can find in the world! Coming from a professional background and used to the quality and definition of a DLSR I was very skeptic to try this mirrorless. I read a lot of reviews and I did rent one before making my decision but when I saw with my eyes the beautiful pictures that come from it and the amazing lightweight I went straight to the shop! I capture my memories in incredible detail with the 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Hybrid AF. I can share and store my memories instantly with built-in Dual Band Wi-Fi. It has a bright 3.3″ AMOLED Tilt & Touch display, perfectly visible even in direct sunlight, with ultra fast 90ms autofocus and 9fps continuous shooting. And the videos are amazing too! Mine is brown retro modern compact metal design.
Protective Dark Brown Leather Camera Case
To protect my camera against damages, dust and scratches this pouch fits the camera and 18-55mm lens. Made by excellent leather, compact, lightweight, extremely durable material and easy to carry.
Canon Powershot SX700
After my disastrous experience in Thailand, when at the beginning of one month trip around the islands, my dear and loved Nikon DLSR broke down on the top of a mountain, and I didn’t have any other camera with me I’ve learnt that you must travel with 2 camera! Remember, always carry 2 cameras when you go on holiday or you could end up crying on top of a mountain and swearing to yourself for being so stupid and not having a back up camera to capture life time memories. So I’ve learnt the lesson and this is my back up plan photography.
- Stunning photos even in low light with HS System: 16.1 Megapixel CMOS, DIGIC 6
- Sharp results in any situation with Intelligent IS plus 5-axis Dynamic IS for steady movies
- Ultra-compact 30x optical zoom, 25mm wide-angle lens. 60x ZoomPlus Connect, backup and share easily using Wi-Fi with NFC support.Remote shooting and GPS tracking via smartphone, Full HD (1080p) movies at 60 fps in stereo with optical zoom
POST-PRODUCTION/PHOTO RETOUCHING TOOLS
Photoshop isn’t cheap, but it’s an amazing tool! I think I’ve learnt to use Photoshop even before MS Word! If you want to take your photographs to the next level consider in getting the free trial first to give it a test run. There are so many video tutorials online from beginners to advanced level that you have no idea. If you’re still a little hesitant on purchasing the software you can always purchase a month-by-month subscription until you know you’re ready to purchase the software outright.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6
This software is a little powerful gem! I’ve started using it only recently and I regret I didn’t before. Being an expert in Photoshop doesn’t mean you don’t need Lightroom. Actually you really need it. Its features will help you speed up the retouching process when you have a lot of pictures, with minor retouching requirements. You can even set presets to standardise photos with your unique style. It is also less expensive than Photoshop so why not venture with this program and make awesome photos.
When I was younger I’ve never really been into reading but more in magazines. But since my first solo trip I’ve started reading a lot. I love paper back books but unfortunately when you backpack for months you have to compromise space and weight plus if you finish a book sometimes is difficult to find a bookstore or an exchange one so that’s why I decided to follow the technology and get me a wonderful kindle. Wonderful purchase! It’s 6″ High Resolution Display (300 ppi) with Built-in Light and Wi-Fi, lightweight and I can get most of my favourite books
When I don’t have my laptop with me this is a life saver. It’s small, lightweight, and resistant. Mine is the version with WiFi only (I was broke when I bought it but I really needed). You can do almost everything like on a computer without the hassle of the lead or charging every day! Oh and its camera is pretty cool too. Well worth it for me.
