FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Connecting with fellow readers is one of the best things about blogging. Here are some of the frequently asked questions that I get about The City Farm Girl.
Thank you for all your question via email and social media, if you have more, please do not stop asking!
WHERE DO YOU GET THE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR RECIPES?
- My mum and Grandmother
- Local chefs
- Books and magazines
- My seasonal fruit & veg garden
- Other blogs
- My travels
WHAT’S YOUR TYPICAL PROCESS WHEN EXPERIMENTING NEW RECIPES?
Often is something like this:
- I see an idea that gets me excited – on the internet, cookbook, videos
- Had a dish that didn’t fully satisfied me (for many different reasons- like taste, combination of ingredients, too saucy or fat) like someone else’s lunch, or something I had at the restaurant.
- Look at the ingredient list or research the techniques if necessary
- Make the dish on my own, not following any particular recipe, just using the basic ingredients, adding my variations and writing down my own notes as I go to make my own recipe.
CAN YOU USE OTHER PEOPLE’S RECIPES ON YOUR BLOG?
There are so many great recipes out there to get inspiration from but my aim is to make my own healthy version. So I just use the basic ingredients and then add some others of my taste, combining different methods of cooking and procedures. I love cooking with the freedom that comes from not following a recipe or a specific set of rules.
That’s what cooking is all about, no? – Experimenting new combinations of great ingredients and sharing the results!
But yes, I will occasionally use others’ recipes on my blog, whether its a recipe from my friends or a favourite cookbook or a blog that I really like. If I do make a recipe that comes from someone else, I will credit him or her in the author section of the recipe.
CAN I USE YOUR PHOTO OR RECIPE ON MY WEBSITE OR BLOG?
Thank you for asking!
Recipes – no. At this time, I do not allow republication of my post or recipe text without prior consent. If people copy and paste my recipes and republish them onto their websites, it will negatively affect how The City Farm Girl gets displayed in search results, which isn’t cool. Plus, there are some copyright issues there. If you have a specific inquiry about a recipe, please feel free to email me.
Photos without recipes – sure! Thanks for sharing. Credit the photos with two links, one back to the recipe post and one back to www.thecityfarmgirl.me
WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND IN FOOD?
My granny, my mum and my chef friends are my food teachers!
I have no formal training and no special expertise, just a taste for healthy delicious food ah, plus, don’t forget that I’m Italian! So I think I have to give the credit to my genes. Just kidding :).
DO YOU FOLLOW A PARTICULAR DIET?
I eat almost anything, but many years ago I had serious digestive and stomach problems, now I’m very careful what I eat in terms of ingredients combinations, portions and cooking methods.
I used to regularly track what I ate, and during that time I would aim for 1,500 calories per day reducing drastically the intake of acid food. I found this to be a really powerful and straightforward way to maintain a healthy life and weight, which is why you’ll see the nutrition labels on most of my recipes.
I am not a vegetarian but I prefer and tend to eat mostly dishes without meat unless is with prosciutto or any cured meat.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE?
Oh no please don’t ask me this question; I have too many recipes which are my favourites! But you know I love sweet stuff so Tiramisù always comes to mind right away when someone asks me this question. Just for not forgetting the healthy side Crostata alla frutta is my must go when I don’t crave for chocolate! I also like Pasticcio which is a local version of the traditional lasagna, rich in taste and full of ingredients. So yummy!
HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU MAKE EACH RECIPE?
It’s not to show off that I’m amazing at food but generally the first time is always the best! Then I feel the responsibility to provide really good quality recipes for my readers, so I usually make the recipe twice to make sure I’ve got it just how I want it. Every once in a while, a recipe takes MANY attempts before being ready to post.
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH ALL YOUR FOOD?
I invite friends over and eat lots of leftovers. I freeze them and have yummy lunches or lazy dinners! Sorry, for desserts there is never a crumb left, everybody like to volunteer to lick (ooops, to clean) the pots!
WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
I’m using a classic Nikon D5100 DSLR with 70mm lens plus when needed the iPhone and iPad cameras come handy!
I WANT TO HELP SUPPORT THE UNIVERSAL EDUCATION SCHOOL IN VARANASI, INDIA. WHAT CAN I DO?
You are truly the best. Thanks for asking! ♥

Yep! I am happy to promote brands and products that I like on The City Farm Girl. If you are a brand looking for partnership, you can email me directly.
